How to...make difficult decisions in your career
I can't tell you what to do, but I CAN help you figure it out for yourself
In my work as a leadership and careers coach, I often get approached by professionals who are really struggling with making a decision. This could be about a career change, whether to change roles, whether to take a job that pays less but offers more fulfillment, or whether to leave a job that isn’t making them happy.
And I always empathise because I’ve been there. I bet you have too. In fact, you may be struggling with making one of these decisions at the moment.
So I know exactly how it feels to be drowning in options and “could dos”, without a clear route to making it through to the other side.
And it’s tempting to just say “trust your gut” on these big decision. But whilst it’s true that we need to listen to our inner voice, we also need to be practical and pragmatic too. It’s nonsense and privileged to say for example, that earning enough money to pay the rent or the mortgage shouldn’t be a factor. Of course it is. And in today’s economy, it’s a big one!
So today I want to share some coaching prompts that I hope will help you if you’re navigating this type of decision and potential change at the moment. I’m not here to tell you the answer this week, but to give you frameworks and support for you to do it for yourself.
