I love spring time, don’t you? Far better than murky old January in my opinion when it comes to setting goals and getting motivated.
And the new financial year is one of the best-kept secrets in career development.
It might not come with fireworks like January, but behind the scenes? Budgets are being finalised, team structures may be shifting, and priorities are being re-scoped, all of which gives you the perfect window of opportunity to reset your own leadership focus.
In today’s newsletter, we’re going to tackle how to do it, without feeling overwhelmed.
And if leadership development is high on your list for 2025 AND you work in the field of Corporate Communications / PR (as I know some of you do), then there are just two more business days left to get the Earlybird rate for The Confident Leader group coaching programme, starting on April 29th. Here’s the link with all the details:
Ok, let’s reset your leadership goals and focus!
Here’s how to make the most of the new financial year, with a more intentional approach to your goals, personal brand, and development conversations.
1. Reconnect to your ‘why’, then set aligned goals
When you’re navigating the shift into leadership, it’s easy to get caught in reactive mode and what I often call the “busy trap” where you are so busy being busy that you forget to be intentional with where your time, focus and value is going.
So before you set any new goals, ask:
What do I want to be known for as a leader this year?
What strengths do I want to be recognised for?
What business challenges do I feel excited to help solve?
From there, identify three priority areas that reflect both your leadership brand and business impact.
