Need a dose of career motivation today?
Watch the new Nike Superbowl ad and get ready to take on the world...
Have you seen the new Nike Superbowl ad?
It's one of the most powerful messages I've seen in a long while...
The new Nike ad contains one of the most motivational messages I've heard in a while, but it's wrapped in the multi-generational pain of being a woman and being overlooked and undervalued. In sport, in careers, in life.
As I watched it (as a woman), it spoke to me really deeply.
And I realised that there had been plenty of times over my corporate career where I sometimes felt undervalued, misunderstood, patronised, blocked, from doing what I knew I was capable of.
And that I kept going anyway.
So today, I want you to use the message from this advert to give you permission in your career:
To succeed. And to thrive.
To rise above what may be "expected" of you as an aspiring leader (particularly, but not exclusively, if you're a woman)
And not just on the level of "you should be lucky you have a voice at all around this table."
But on your terms. To lead in what you know is the RIGHT WAY.
Come on then, what's the message of the ad Louise?
"YOU CAN'T WIN. SO WIN."
Let that sink in. I'll wait.
We all (and not just women!) battle with limiting sterotypes about who we are and the value we provide. And we all face toxic bosses from time to time who try to dull our shine and hold us back.
But we can't change everything all at once. And people will...people.
So maybe accept that.
And win anyway.
Lead the way you want to lead. (The way you know is right)
Become a trusted leader in an age of mistrust.
Advocate for transparency and accountability.
Be authentic AND credible.
Link your results to things that really matter to the business.
Invest in professional development for you and your team.
And get ready to reach new heights of achievement and impact.
You can't win. So win.
What does the Nike ad and its message mean to you and your career? How will you use it to push past any self-limiting beliefs that may be holding you back?
And through coaching, can I help you get out of your own way?
Have a great week,
Louise
