Welcome back to Lead with Intention! Firstly, huge apologies for this week’s newsletter being a day late - half term brings so many twists and turns doesn’t it for working parents? Yesterday, we discovered that museums in school holidays are BUSY. I know, shocking. But still, we had a great time and recharged ahead of a very busy March for all of us.

How’s your February (also known as Fool’s Spring or our second Winter) going? Reply and let me know what you’re working on or dealing with!

Today, we’re talking about something most leaders think they do, but very few actually practice: self-reflection.

The Leadership Superpower You Can’t Ignore

Most leaders don’t fail because they lack intelligence, drive, or strategic thinking. They fail because they lack self-awareness, and that starts with self-reflection. This is something I challenge all of my leadership coaching clients with, as it truly is the foundation of their development.

The corporate world rewards action. Leaders are praised for making quick decisions, driving results, and keeping the business moving. But what happens when those actions aren’t aligned with the right priorities? When a leader’s strengths become their biggest blind spots? When they can’t see the impact they’re really having on their team?

Why Self-Reflection Matters More Than You Think

Self-reflection isn’t about naval-gazing or overthinking. It’s about sharpening your leadership edge. The best leaders (those who inspire trust, make sound decisions, and adapt to change) take time to reflect on their actions, behaviours, and impact.

Here’s why it matters:

  • Better decision-making – Reflection helps you assess past choices and refine your instincts.

  • Stronger relationships – Understanding your leadership style helps you build trust and psychological safety.

  • Greater resilience – When you know yourself, you can handle challenges with clarity instead of reacting emotionally.

  • Increased influence – Leaders who reflect communicate with confidence and purpose.

So Why Do So Many Leaders Suck at This?

Let’s get real. Most leaders don’t take time to reflect. And when they do, it’s often only when things go very, very wrong.
