Your essential blueprint: first 100 days in a new senior role
(and if you're not new to your job, use these tips to shake things up a bit!)
The job market is tough at the moment. And if you’re job seeking at the moment, then all my thoughts, love and support are with you on this journey.
But you know what’s also hard? GETTING the job, and then making the right impact in that role, once that first flush of exhilaration and relief has passed. Particularly when you’re working at a senior level and the expectations (including the ones you set for yourself) are higher than ever.
It can be a hugely anxiety-producing time, mixed in with all the other great and happy feelings about securing a new role.
During my corporate career, I often wound myself up tighter than a very tight thing in the days leading up to starting a new role. Wanting everything to go perfectly, worrying that it wouldn’t.
Ironically, and in part due to my occupation as a Corporate Communications leader, many of my first days did NOT go to plan! More than once, I walked into a full blown crisis that needed immediate attention.
And whilst this actually did go a long way in lessening my first day nerves - because I could immediately jump into action and start solving problems - it then made it a bit more challenging to get things back on track with my induction and first 100 days.
And I don’t know about you, but I haven’t always had the most hands on induction support in my new roles either. People mean well, but well, things are busy and meetings slide…
So when I started coaching others professionally, I wanted to help set people up for success in their new roles - often at a senior level. I honed an approach I want to lay out for you today, in the hope it helps if you are in this position now, or are hoping to be soon!
