We’ve had the summer solstice and the second half of the year is calling. Can you believe it’s already nearly the end of June? For so many reasons, 2025 has flown by and I want us all to take a moment today to start thinking about the second half of this year at work, before that races away with you too.
So - big picture thinking - where do you want to be professionally by Dec 31st, 2025?
I know. Scary right? But trust me, there’s nothing worse than trotting up to your annual appraisal or performance review with your manager and feeling like you have nothing to show for it. You know you’ve done “stuff.” But you’re finding it hard to prove it, and what’s worse, you’re not even sure that you’ve worked towards or met your goals.
If you’re aiming for a leadership role in your career, that’s just not going to cut it.
So as you think about the second half of 2025 professionally, think about this:
Are you leading 2025? Or are you letting 2025 lead you?
(You want the former of course!)
The end of June is the perfect time to pause and get intentional. Not about your to-do list, but about your leadership ambitions and development. Your growth. Your visibility. And, if it’s on your radar, your next promotion.
Do it now and you’ll be able to float away on that sun lounger under a cloud of SPF and aperol spritz, knowing that you put the hard work in when it mattered, to set you up to end 2025 on a high note in your career.
Why a Mid-Year Check-In Matters
If you’re anything like my coaching clients, you’re finding that the year has moved quickly. You’ve delivered, stretched, juggled, adapted, reacted. And chances are, you’ve hardly had time to take stock of how far you’ve come.
This isn’t about annual reviews or objectives tracking per se (you probably already have a template for those.)
Instead, this is your chance to:
Acknowledge what’s working (and why)
Reconnect with what you want (and why)
Shift your focus to lead more strategically in the next 90 days
Because leadership isn’t just about doing more. It’s about leading with purpose, presence, and positioning. It’s about sorting the wheat from the chaff in terms of priorities that really matter (vs that never-ending to-do list.)
My Mid-Year Review Questions for You
Start here. Even five minutes of honest reflection can bring powerful clarity.
What am I proud of so far this year? (And have I told other people?)
Where have I stretched myself as a leader and what’s the evidence?
Where am I coasting or playing safe?
What do I want to be true about my career and myself as a leader (or aspiring leader) by the end of this year?
If I were already operating at the next level, what would I do differently this quarter?
