How to... Build Executive Presence in your role (a new mini-series)
If you want to step up to leadership, you need to know how to influence those around you and that means mastering the tricky (and sometimes elusive) art of executive presence
Welcome back to Lead with Intention! I am thrilled we’re done with Halloween and ready to embrace the festive season, BUT there is a big old milestone before I go into full on Christmas prep and that’s my birthday! I’m 48 in a couple of weeks, and am determined to wrest my birthday back after a few years of being in denial about my advancing age ;) In a rash moment, I may have booked an ice-skating session as part of my celebration, check back with me after November 25th and see how I’m doing won’t you??
I also want to announce a new focus for the newsletter over the next few weeks - and it’s really going to help if you are getting serious about advancing into leadership in 2025.
Together, we are going to explore and unpick the theme of Executive Presence.
We get told it’s essential for becoming a credible leader that people listen to (and it is!), but what is it, why is it so important and how you can cultivate it as an aspiring leader?
I confess, I found this mystifying earlier in my career. I knew what it looked like when I saw and experienced it in others, but I couldn’t define it and struggled to build my own. As a woman, I also felt penalised/patronised (insert your own word beginning with P here!) when it came to being taken seriously at work. It’s taken a long time and (and coaching!) to dismantle some of those limiting stereotypes and navigate leadership in an authentic AND effective way.
So as you start to build your personal development plan for the year ahead, I want to share what I have learnt as a leader and a coach, to help you build credibility and impact in your career.
Executive presence matters, because it’s a sign that you can be trusted as a leader, and it’s a way you can inspire confidence in others as a leader. Without it, you may have all the best ideas and the highest level of expertise, but you won’t be seen as, ot treated as a leader.
Over the next few weeks, paid subscribers will get access to everything in this mini-series, so do consider upgrading your free sub if you think you’d benefit from this. Don’t worry, there’ll be more free content coming too, including an exercise to help you plan for the year ahead in your career.
Let’s get started….
